Body Jewelry Aftercare
The worst thing you can do is touch the piercing without washing your hands. To clean your piercing get Dial foaming soap (non scented). Place the soap onto a Cotton ball and gently rub it around the piercing. Then get a saline solution like Nielmed. Rub the spray on your hand then get it onto a cotton ball. Gently rub it around the piercing to get rid of the soap residue of the piercing. You can also soak the piercing in the saline solution with a shot glass as well. Do this twice a day; once in the morning and once at night. You can clean it a third time in the middle of the day with just saline solution if you would like. General healing time is about 16 weeks but some piercings can take much longer.
Sometimes the piercing can swell this is why we pierce with longer jewelry in the beginning. After about 12 to 14 weeks if the piercing has been properly taken care of you should be able to switch it to a shorter piece of jewelry. Do not submerge the piercing in any water for at least 3 weeks. Running water like showers are fine but try and keep shampoos and body washes away from the piercing. Always keep make up and other peoples body fluids away from a fresh piercing. The better you take care a your piercing the quicker it will heal!
For questions about properly caring for your piercing don’t hesitate to give us a call. Your safety is our number one priority and we would happy to help.
For oral piercings you want to use a saline solution or a nonalcoholic mouth wash. Use it after eating, smoking and drinking alcohol. Stay away from hot and spicy foods for 3 to 4 days. Try not to play with the piercing while it’s healing. Stay away from other peoples body fluids.
